About Mariano

Mariano De Simone began taking classes in 2009 in some schools of Cuban salsa, bachata, merengue (Academy de Cuba) later devoted several hours to several master classes at masters events with very famous as the Dominican power, Alberto Valdes, Seo Fernandez, and many others. Year after year, he tried to learn the true culture and musicality of the dance like the Cuban rumba and its abilities have grown up with the lessons taken from the master Maykel Fonts and perfected later with Maestro Giuseppe Sabatino. He also devoted part of his time to the preparation of ballet at the teacher Manuela Carrino.

Lessons and Classes

In Mariano’s lessons each participant will learn that the Cuban salsa de casino a combination of culture, musicality and dance. Culture and dance in the salsa are fused together and this is important to learn together to be able to interpret the most of this dance. There will also be lessons in bachata, Dominican bachata, rueda de casino and Afro rumba.

Where and when

Mondays 7:30pm – 9:30pm: Beginner and Advanced classes in Tiny Rebel. This venue will change 1-2 times per month due to other bookings in Tiny Rebel. Check the events for venue location – it will always be in Cardiff city centre.

Wednesday 7pm – 9pm:  Check the calendar for location – lately it has been in Tiny Rebel.

About Gemma

Gemma discovered salsa in 2007 and quickly became a self-professed salsa addict. She has travelled across the UK and learnt from some of the most prominent figures in the international
salsa community since then. She began performing in 2009 and has been teaching since 2010 in Cardiff.  She is known for her energetic style and her passion for salsa dance and music.

Lessons

Gemma teaches cross-body style salsa and also runs skills workshops for all styles of salsa dancers.

Her beginners classes are taught in collaboration with Salsa Souls. Students will be given the fundamental steps and basic turn patters to use as their foundations to build up their repertoire.

Her skills workshops are taught in a dance studio, and give students an in depth understanding of the mechanics of salsa and its connection to the music with plenty of individual feedback and tips for improvements.

Skills workshops: Every Sunday from 5pm at JustOne Theatre Arts, 19 Splott Road, Cardiff

Beginners classes: Every Monday from 8pm at O’Neills, St. Mary’s Street, Cardiff

About Daniel

Daniel first burst onto the Bachata scene with his team “Reyes del Ritmo” who are the current UK Bachata Masters Team Champions. He went on to represent the UK with Reyes del Ritmo in February 2014 against other Champions from around the world at the World Bachata Masters where they placed 8th in the World.

Daniel’s passion for bachata has seen him become a popular teacher in his home city of London, with his classes exuding a relaxed atmosphere with a strong emphasis on having fun along the way. It has been said that he has a unique style which has been labelled as “ChongChata” amongst London Bachateros.

Outside of teaching in Cardiff, Daniel also organises Bachata on Saturday in London. Find out more about BOS here.

Where and when

Daniel and his team, Bachadiff, can be found in O’Neill’s in Cardiff every Monday night and teach two classes of different style Bachata. Beginners are safe in the hands of Fernando Ania.

Following the classes there is social dance that usually lasts for a few hours.

7:30 pm – 8:30 pm: Sensual Bachata – Improvers+

8:30 pm – 9:30pm: Dominican Bachata – Improvers+

Saturn Dance is run by Darren Jones and Lucilla Scott-Jones. Between them they have over 40 years dance experience, as dancers, competitors and teachers. They are both qualified ballroom and latin dance teachers and associate members of the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association).

Darren and Lucilla are married and live in Cardiff.

About Darren

Darren took up dancing at the age of seven. He competed as a juvenile, junior and amateur, and by the age of 23 was ranked as one of the top 24 dancers in the UK. He danced on the Ystrad Fawr Formation Teams for 14 years, during which time they won the British Formation Championships on four occasions, and consistently ranked amongst the top twelve in the World.

Darren has danced in a number of TV programmes and several films, appearing in Come Dancing, The Generation Game, Children in Need, and in the BBC series Torchwood, with Lucilla.

About Lucilla

Lucilla fell in love with dancing when she was 15. Once she got to university she danced on the Cardiff University Dance Team for many years, and was President and Captain of the club during her time there. In 2002 she started dancing with Darren and in 2003 they won every university competition in their team dance, becoming the 2003 National Inter-Varsity Champions and securing an historic three-way tie for first place for Cardiff University Dance Team.

Soon after this she and Darren turned professional and set up Saturn Dance in 2007.

Classes

Saturn Dance provide a range of ballroom and latin dance classes to cater for all levels of dancers. Courses run in 12 week blocks, but you can choose to attend a single class, half a term (6 weeks) or a full term. See their full calendar on their website.

About

Shahid is the founder, director, and main teacher of Salsa Buena and most of its classes. He began his Salsa journey in 2001 whilst living in London when persuaded to attend a local Salsa class and has since not looked back! Living in London he was fortunate enough to count some of the worlds best teachers and performers as his mentors, Super Mario, Susanna Montero, Marchant Birch, Leon Rose, Tamambo, Larisa Balogh, as well as travelling to international congresses around the world from Spain to USA learning from all the worlds best teachers . “I was so lucky to have these guys as my teachers, learning from the best of the best!”. After returning to his home town of Cardiff in 2006, Shahid found that his skills were much in demand and Salsa Buena was eventually born!

The success of Salsa Buena has been huge, largely due to its great, fun, friendly and structured classes with very experienced and professional teachers, enabling everyone not only to enjoy their experience but to be able to achieve their full potential on the dance floor. Salsa Buena’s success extends far beyond having the most popular classes and organising the biggest events in and around Cardiff.

Shahid is also regularly booked to guest teach at renowned dance events and functions around the UK, and has made numerous media appearances and interviews as part of Salsa Buena on major Radio, TV, and newspaper channels as well as using his dancing/choreography/teaching skills in dance scenes when called for in TV dramas and movies. For Shahid and Salsa Buena it’s about reaching as many people as possible to enjoy the amazing positive benefits socially, mentally, physically and spiritually that dancing and learning to dance brings ALL of us.

Classes

No need to bring a partner. Casual wear is the norm, we recommend you wear anything comfortable on your feet with a smooth sole. Please do not bring your own drinks and please purchase any drink (pref not squash!) at the bar to support us being at the venue. All classes are approx 50 minutes in length, all times given could be subject to some delay and overrun. Contact us if you wish to purchase class gift vouchers for any occasion.

About Lyndsey

Lyndsey was winning dance awards from the age of 7, but it wasn’t until she discovered her local Jive class 15 years ago that she really fell in love with partner dancing.

Since then Lyndsey has been a Ceroc teacher for the last 11 years, owns Ceroc South Wales, runs one of Wales’ largest dance competitions, has won 7 open championships and has taught all over the UK and abroad.

Lyndsey also teaches Rock’n’Roll, and has more recently fallen in love with Argentine Tango.

Lessons and Classes

Ceroc blends of lots of different dance styles including salsa, jive, hip hop, ballroom and tango has become so popular it is the largest and fastest growing partner dance in the UK.

Come and join the other scores of new people coming to Ceroc for the first time every week. Learning to dance with Ceroc is a great way to keep fit, socialise and enjoy a complete night out.

Lyndsey is available for private lessons in her home in Barry, or can be booked for large social events (for example, a fun class at a wedding or Christmas party).

Irene teaches Salsa and Bachata in Cardiff’s Bierkeller. Her classes include a breakdown of salsa steps and sequences.

Come with a partner or on your own as we change partners so you dance with everyone in the class. It is a sociable event. This is a class suitable for all levels of dance experience from those who have no dance experience to those who have been dancing for many years.

Once a month there will be a bachata special class where you can learn another latin dance.
