[Class] Swing with Jessie Brooks @ Ardour Acacdemy
Nov 18 @ 8:30 pm – 10:00 pm
[Class] Swing with Jessie Brooks @ Ardour Acacdemy | United Kingdom

Jessie discovered the world of swing dancing while living in Toronto in 2010 and hasn’t stopped swingin’ out since! Having previously competed in Ballroom and Latin, she was drawn to the unbridled joy of Lindy Hop and swears by its’ ability to bring sunshine into people’s lives. No matter where she dances in the world, she’s yet to find a swing dancer that doesn’t have a big smile on their face.

“My favourite thing about social swing dancing is watching people lose themselves in those few minutes on a dance floor: in that moment, nothing else matters except the music and their connection with their partner.” Jessie loves to help people discover the power of connecting with another person through dance and takes great enjoyment in nurturing new dancers’ journey into the exciting world of swing. Her teaching approach is firmly rooted in the belief that we learn best when we’re having fun!

When she’s not dancing, you’ll find Jessie setting fire to all manner of things in the name of learning in her role as a Science Communicator, performing interactive shows for schools in South Wales.

Location: Roath Conservative Club

The Basics class (Level 1)

These courses are run in 4-week blocks every month and are aimed at absolute beginners.

These courses are ideal for absolute beginners with no prior experience, they will focus on building confidence in body movement such as travel and turns, connection and lead/follow technique. You will be introduced to simple footwork patterns, and the basic swing moves needed to start you off on the social dance floor.

You don’t need any prior experience, and don’t need to bring a partner (although it’s recommended as it will help balance the numbers in the room!)

Each session will start with a 1 hour class followed by a half hour practice session.

7pm – 8pm instructional session introducing you to basic concepts and simple moves

8pm – 8:30pm will be structured practice time with feedback from teacher and a chance to ask questions

The Moves class (Level 2)

These courses are run in 4-week blocks every month, and are aimed at dancers with a solid grounding in the basics. These classes will give you a broad knowledge of swing dance moves and the ability to lead and follow them in different contexts.

These courses will focus on teaching you the vocabulary of swing dance, covering a variety of moves to add to your repertoire. You’ll learn how to use moves in different contexts and how to truly lead and follow them with style.

This is ideal for dancers who have covered a few months of The Basics and are wishing to vary their content, or for higher level dancers who feel ‘stuck in a rut’ on the social dance floor and wish to add more moves to their skills set.

Each session starts with a warm-up social dance section, followed by a 1hr class starting at 8:30pm..

8pm – 8:30pm Will be a warm up session, with a chance for the teacher to familiarise herself with your level and needs

8:30pm – 9:30pm instructional session covering key moves in the Lindy Hop repertoire.

[Class] Swing Dance Sunday @ The Bootlegger | Wales | United Kingdom

SWING DANCE TASTER CLASSES and CLASSIC SWING DJ on the FIRST SUNDAY OF EVERY MONTH!

£4 to join in the taster class
Free entry all night for bar and DJing after class

Come and give swing dance a go in Cardiff’s newest swing and blues bar, The Bootlegger!

The bar is running an evening of swing, and have booked Lindy Hop Cardiff to run regular taster classes from 7pm followed by classic swing DJing from Anna Rogers. Anna runs all Lindy Hop Cardiff classes and events, which she launched in order to established a new swing dance scene in her home city. Lindy Hop now has a great following in Cardiff and you can be sure to meet lots of friendly dancers at these events. Anna has DJed international swing dance festivals and events across the UK and specialises in music for Lindy Hop dancing and knows how to keep the dance floor swinging all night.

The Bootlegger has a real passion for swing and jazz, so is right up our street! It also is perfectly located on Womanby Street, offering the chance to have a fun evening out before the working week hits you! The bar offers quality cocktails and a tasty selection of drinks, a great atmosphere and plays great swing music! The floor is rustic wood so might not be suited to suede-soled shoes, but something with a smooth sole would be best. Dance space will be a little limited given the cosy nature of the venue, but it’s an ideal chance for a fun night out with a difference and a chance to introduce new people to the joy of swing!

No need to bring a partner, as we’ll split the room in to leads and follows, and swap partners. These are fun tasters designed to give you an idea of the Lindy Hop at a fun night out, and check out our courses and workshops for more detailed tuition.

No booking required, just drop-in, but a max capacity limit will be applied to keep classes managable. RSVP on the website to reserve a place in the class, or arrive early to not miss out!

Jan 6 @ 8:30 pm – 10:00 pm

[Class] Lindy Hop – 4 week course @ RCC
Jan 7 @ 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm
[Class] Lindy Hop - 4 week course @ RCC | Wales | United Kingdom

Please note that these classes are run as two separate courses based on your own levels.  Book your class on lindyhopcardiff.com. Each course will last for 4 weeks and starts on the first Tuesday of every month.
